ASADI is a design school that aims to promote freedom in education, which is reflected in its name. In certain regions, including the Indian Sub-Continent, "ASADI" means "Freedom." The institution strives to create an environment that is free of preconceived notions and beliefs, allowing students to express their own philosophy and develop their ability to think independently. These principles align with the National Education Policy 2020. ASADI aims to produce architects and designers who will contribute to the betterment of society in the future. The institution's core value is to train competent professionals who are passionate about making a positive impact on society and who can compete globally. ASADI prepares students for an inspiring, engaging, and productive career, allowing them to become leaders in the field of design and planning.
ASADI is an institution focused on social and environmental improvement, established by ABR Foundation, a Charitable Trust. The school is led by Senior Architect Prof. B. R. Ajit, who heads Ajit Associates, a prominent architectural and design consulting firm in South India, recognized for their excellence in the field for over 47 years.
People often ask me why I decided to start a School of Architecture at this point in my life, when my architectural practice is thriving. They question the feasibility of starting a school with a small number of students and many planned facilities. I understand that starting this school late in my life may not result in the financial returns people expect from such a venture. So why did I embark on this project? The answer is simple: to create a new generation of architects who are committed to addressing societal needs, sustainability, and responsible environmental practices, especially for those who currently have no homes other than the sky.
I've been thinking about this goal since I completed my architectural studies. I've watched and experienced the output of young architects from most schools in our country, and I wonder if our current educational system prepares students to become socially responsible architects. Are we simply teaching them to earn degrees and make a living, or are we instilling in them an awareness and responsibility towards society and the environment?
I believe that education and learning are not just for living but for life. ASADI aims to provide a new approach to architectural education, focusing on producing graduates who are responsible architects committed to doing good for society. We have incorporated various innovative methodologies in architectural education, such as integrating verticals and horizontals from the first year, adopting the Gurukul system of education, learning from masters, enhancing students' innate creativity, hands-on training, and more.
So, I invite you to be a part of this new philosophy, this new initiative, and this noble thought for a better world. Let's work together to create a new breed of architects who are social scientists, deeply concerned about our environment, and capable of changing the way the world thinks and behaves.
ASADI's vision is to create a new breed of architects who are fully committed to societal needs, sustainability, and changing the world by creating a better and more responsible environment. The mission of the school is to provide a unique approach to architectural education through the integration of verticals and horizontals from year one, adopting the Gurukul system of education, learning from the masters, hands-on training, and encouraging sustainable living. The school will have a flexible environment that enables students to learn at their own pace while also providing sufficient infrastructure to develop their talents in various art forms. Each student will have a single mentor from the full-time faculty and a professional mentor who is a practicing architect. ASADI will bring in visiting professors, including great masters of architecture, to provide practical knowledge. The college building will serve as a "Living Laboratory" where students can understand construction techniques by observing exposed pipelines, electric cable works, air condition systems, and structures taught as integrated horizontals from year one.
